Running Product Function

by Data Boutiq

Tableau offers several cumulative functions such as RUNNING_SUM, RUNNING_MAX, and RUNNING_AVG. However, it does not include a RUNNING_PRODUCT function, which can be useful for calculating certain indicators. Fortunately, you can implement this function yourself.

Use Cases for the RUNNING_PRODUCT Function

  • Calculate the Total Product of a Data Set

Example: In a sales report, use this function to calculate the total number of items sold over a specific period
  • Calculate the Average Product of a Data Set

Example: Determine the average number of items sold in an online store over a given period
  • Analyze Product Performance Over Time

Example: Compare the sales of a product across different stores or time periods to analyze its performance
